  • Using saturation as color correction: Saturation strengthens incorrect colors along with correct ones. A bad blue cast at higher saturation is still bad, only louder.
  • Ignoring reflections: Color controls cannot remove a bright lamp reflected in the glass. Photograph with room lights off, keep the lens close to the glass, and avoid shooting at a steep angle.
  • Judging only the fish: Check sand, plants, rocks, and water too. A convincing orange fish surrounded by purple gravel may indicate that the hue slider has staged a coup.
  • Editing at maximum screen brightness: A glowing display can make a dark image appear properly exposed. Check the result at a normal brightness level before sharing it.

Keep the Correction Natural and Private

Successful aquarium editing preserves the feeling of being beside the tank. Some blue atmosphere is appropriate, shadows should remain, and bioluminescent-looking colors should only appear when the animals actually have them.
